| 2/5/07 update: Matt miraculously pulled off all three bets. Some things to note with regards to hitting on the under (although I found out after writing this that he actually got the under at 48.5, not 47 as I previously wrote):

| 2/2/07 - My brother Matt has been on a tear this year. I am not talking about his usually farting tears where he clears out a bar with multiple stink bombs, but a gambling tear that puts Barnaroo’s 05-06 picks to shame. Gamblers have retarded logic when it comes to explaining their winnings. Often they will tell you they are up $300. Then when you inquire about their luck, you find out they lost $800 earlier in the season, then deposited another $250, and they are up $300 since losing $800. Therefore, when someone talks about a gambling run, most people familiar with gambling questions it for the reason I just mentioned and simply because the odds are against winning. For Matt and I, one of the few remnants of our Catholic upbringing is our honesty and our drinking problems. I know how much Matt has won this year because we both do not bother lying about it. Perhaps it is not honesty, but merely that we both believe that bragging about how much you have won gambling is stupid, since gambling is stupid in the first place. In the long run, we will always be down. Long story short, I know my brother, and I know he has had an amazing run this year (that and the fact that he forgets to log off of sportsbook on my computer so I can look at all his bets). Back to Matt’s gambling run. He started the year with a $350 deposit, and has kicked ass almost every weekend. He is not just hitting on simply one off bets (although he is getting those as well); he is winning on 4, 3, and 2 team parlays. Usually he will back those bets with the same bet only tease the spreads. In addition, he will usually win on one or two straight over/under bets. In the playoffs, he won on two of the greatest covers of all time: hitting on the under by two points because San Diego missed the field goal against New England and the Colts cover by 1 point with their touchdown against New England. He has already cashed out large amounts twice, and has a pending bet on the Super Bowl. So what does Matt the Greek suggest for the Super Bowl: "Take the Under 47 and the Colts –7. Both straight up bets." (This seems strange to me as the Colts need to win by at least 8, a fairly large margin, but the total score needs to stay low. Oh well, I have learned not to question Matt the Greek.) "Then do a two team tease with the Colts –1 and the under 53." Don’t forget, gambling is a tax for people bad at math! |
